Why Hike Beckwith Pass

The trail to Beckwith Pass, a low saddle on the border of the West Elk Wilderness, ascends through forest and lovely meadows with fine views of Ruby Peak (12,644-ft.) and Mount Owen (13,058-ft.) to the north. At the pass panoramic views stretch north to Marcellina Mountain (11,348-ft.), the Ruby Range and the Raggeds. East Beckwith Mountain (12,432-ft.) dominates the view to the west while Storm Ridge and the Castles rise to the south.

Extend the hike by walking to a high point beyond the pass or to Beckwith Bench, a huge meadow on a high shelf to the south of East Beckwith Mountain. Both destinations feature fabulous vistas of the Anthracite Range and peaks in the West Elk Wilderness.
